Tapzy FAQs
Everything you need to know before you tap.
Quick answers about NFC, phone compatibility, custom branding, programming, business orders and delivery in South Africa.
NFC & compatibility
What is NFC?
NFC stands for Near Field Communication. It allows a compatible phone to read a small chip at very close range. Tapzy uses NFC to connect a physical card, stand or sticker to a digital action.
Does my customer need a Tapzy app?
No. A normal Tapzy NFC interaction does not require the customer to install a Tapzy app. They bring a compatible smartphone close to the NFC point and continue from the phone prompt or opened destination.
Which phones work with Tapzy?
Most modern iPhone and Android smartphones support NFC. Exact behaviour depends on the phone model, operating system and settings. Some Android phones may require NFC to be enabled in settings.
Where on the phone should I tap?
The NFC antenna position varies by device. Usually the upper/back area of the phone works well. Hold the phone close to the marked NFC point for a moment and move it slightly if it does not register immediately.
Will NFC work through a phone case?
Many normal thin cases do. Thick cases, metal cases, magnetic accessories or cards stored against the phone can reduce NFC performance. If necessary, remove the obstruction and try again.
What if a phone cannot use NFC?
Where appropriate, a Tapzy design can include a QR-code fallback so the same destination remains accessible to customers who cannot complete the NFC tap.
Does NFC need internet?
The passive NFC tag itself does not need an internet connection. If the tap opens an online service such as Google, WhatsApp, a website or social media, the phone needs internet access to load that destination.
Products & setup
What can a Tapzy product open?
Common destinations include Google Reviews, WhatsApp, websites, contact details, social profiles, menus, booking pages and campaign links. If you have a different use case, tell us what you want the customer to do after the tap.
Does my Tapzy product arrive programmed?
For products sold as programmed Tapzy solutions, yes. We prepare the agreed NFC destination and test the setup before dispatch so the product is intended to arrive ready to use.
Can I change the link later?
Some NFC setups can be reprogrammed, but Tapzy does not currently promise a self-service dynamic-link dashboard for every product. If you expect the destination to change regularly, tell us before ordering so we can recommend the most suitable setup for your use case.
Can I use my own logo and brand colours?
Yes. Custom Tapzy products are designed around your business branding. You provide the relevant logo/brand assets, we prepare a design proof, and production proceeds after the artwork is approved.
Will a custom product be covered in Tapzy branding?
No. For custom business products, your brand should remain the focus. Tapzy branding can be kept restrained or placed discreetly where appropriate rather than dominating the customer-facing design.
Do standard Tapzy products need a monthly subscription?
Standard direct-link Tapzy NFC products do not require a monthly Tapzy subscription simply for the NFC tag to function. Any future managed or software-based services would be explained separately rather than being silently added to a physical-product purchase.
Does the NFC chip need a battery?
No. The NFC tags used in Tapzy products are passive and do not need their own battery for a normal tap.
Can I place an NFC sticker directly on metal?
Do not assume a standard sticker will work directly on metal. Tapzy’s standard PET NFC stickers are not anti-metal stickers. Metal can interfere with normal NFC performance, so tell us if metal placement is part of your project.
Is tapping a Tapzy product safe?
A standard Tapzy NFC tag provides the programmed destination when a phone is intentionally brought close enough to read it. It does not automatically gain access to the customer’s private phone data, install software or pair with the phone over Bluetooth.
Custom, business & bulk orders
How does a custom order work?
Choose the format and use case, send your branding, and tell us the digital destination. Tapzy prepares the design for approval. Once approved, the product is produced, programmed and tested before dispatch.
Do you offer bulk orders?
Yes. Tapzy can quote for teams, branches, events and larger business rollouts involving cards, stands, stickers or a mix. Pricing is based on the real quantity, branding, programming, packaging and delivery requirements.
Can different employees or branches have different NFC destinations?
Yes, this can be planned as part of a business project. Tell us how the order needs to be split so the quote and production setup reflect the number of unique designs or destinations required.
Can Tapzy help me choose between cards, stands and stickers?
Yes. Tell us where the customer interaction happens. Cards are portable, stands make the tap point obvious on counters and desks, and stickers are useful on suitable surfaces where a larger product is unnecessary.
South Africa, delivery & support
Is Tapzy South African?
Yes. Tapzy is a South African brand. We source NFC hardware and focus on providing local customisation, programming, testing, support and business solutions for the South African market.
Do you deliver nationwide?
Yes, Tapzy is intended to serve customers across South Africa. Delivery cost and timing can depend on the order and destination.
Where is Tapzy based?
Tapzy serves South Africa nationwide, with service focus in Pretoria / Johannesburg and wider Gauteng as well as Cape Town and the Western Cape. References to these areas describe service regions and should not be read as a guarantee of a walk-in retail location.
How long does a custom or bulk order take?
Timing depends on stock, quantity, artwork approval, print requirements and delivery. If you have an event or deadline, include the date in your quote request so Tapzy can confirm what is realistic before production starts.
Still have a question?
If your use case is not covered here, tell us what you want the tap to achieve. We can help you work out the right format and setup.
