NFC Card Price in South Africa: What Should You Expect to Pay?
A clear guide to NFC card pricing in South Africa, including standard, custom and bulk cost factors.
When people search for NFC card prices in South Africa, they often find everything from cheap blank tags to fully branded business cards. Those products are not directly comparable.
The useful question is: what is included in the price? A blank NFC card is only hardware. A finished business product can include design, printing, programming, testing, support and a destination that is ready for customers to use.
Tapzy NFC card prices
For Tapzy, the standard retail pricing is straightforward:
- Standard NFC Card: R169 each for 1–9 units.
- Custom NFC Card: R199 each for 1–9 units.
- Tapzy Design Service: R199 once per unique design when you need Tapzy to create the artwork.
Quantity discounts begin at 10 units. Orders of 100+ units are quoted based on the actual project. You can see all current tiers on the Tapzy rate card.
Why some NFC cards cost much less
A low-cost NFC card may be an unprinted blank tag. That can be perfectly useful if you already know how to program NFC, create the artwork, print the product and test the customer experience yourself.
A branded business card is different. The cost may include the physical card, printed design, NFC setup and quality control. When comparing suppliers, check whether you are comparing finished products or raw NFC hardware.
What affects NFC card pricing?
Common cost factors include:
- quantity ordered;
- standard design vs custom branding;
- whether design work is required;
- the NFC chip and card construction;
- printing method and finish;
- whether the card is programmed and tested before dispatch;
- the software or destination used after the tap;
- delivery.
Do NFC cards have monthly fees?
A basic NFC card that opens a normal direct link does not inherently require a monthly subscription. The NFC chip simply stores information that the phone reads.
Some providers sell managed digital-profile platforms or analytics services on a recurring subscription. Those can be useful, but they are separate from the physical NFC technology. Tapzy does not require a monthly Tapzy subscription for standard direct-link products.
What about delivery?
Tapzy’s standard South African delivery options are Pudo at R59 and door-to-door delivery at R99. Standard delivery is 2–5 business days. If delivery takes more than 7 days, Tapzy provides R30 store credit.
Is custom branding worth the extra cost?
If the card is customer-facing, custom branding can make the interaction feel much more deliberate. A branded card can include your logo, colours and wording so the customer understands that the tap belongs to your business.
If the card is used internally or as a simple utility, a standard design may be enough. The right choice depends on whether the card itself is part of the customer experience.
How to compare value instead of price alone
Before choosing a supplier, compare what happens from order to first customer tap. Ask whether the card arrives programmed, whether the link is checked, how custom artwork is approved, and what support is available if something goes wrong.
